Aussie Car Hire

February 10th, 2010

Many people have the misconception that car rental companies are difficult people and the whole process is a complicated one. The truth is, working with a car hire company is one the simplest things that you will ever do. These companies take things very seriously and they are rather easy to deal with when you have rental needs. Especially in Australia, car rental could not get any easier if they tried to make it so. Car hire in Melbourne is a breeze and in my experience, Car hire in Melbourne is, as well.

One thing to know about car hire in Brisbane or in a big city like Sydney is that the rental places are quite conveniently situated. They are usually strategically placed where people would usually have a need. If you are coming into the airport, then car hire in Brisbane or Sydney is very easy, with the rental companies having locations at the major air fields. As soon as you walk out the terminal, head over to the booth and pick up the key to the car that you have placed a reservation for.

I have hired a car several times, and the companies that I have dealt with are very helpful and passionate about providing you with an easy experience. There are no huge hoops to jump through and so forth. For the most part, they take customer service very seriously and acknowledge that customers do not want to put up with any more hassles that they are already dealing with when travelling. If you just want to get a car and get out on your way, then car hire in Perth or other cities is a breeze and it’s something to keep in mind.

Likewise, my experience with car rental was a pleasant one because of the drop off locations that were also available. I was able to find a location quickly and it was right near my hotel, making life much easier than it might have otherwise been.

A Chronicle of Putney London - How it Was Certified

January 27th, 2010

Putney is a small part within the Manor of Wimbledon. It is located between the parishes of Wandsworth and Barnes and is bounded on the North by the Thames. It is within the hundred of Brixton, which is part of the county of Surrey. Early mentions of Putney can be seen in the Doom Book, wherein one can find the mention of Putenlie.

This Mortlake (Mortelage) fishery was under Earl Harold during King Edwards reign, and Archbishop Stigland oversaw its functioning while in the rule; however, it is said that Harold set it up by force during King Edwards reign in the land of Chingestune (Kingston), and in the land of Saint Paul’s.

The Fishery
Owing to the Thames running along its border Putney has always seen a good connection with trades that are linked with this river had a strong relation with businesses associated with the river. According to an early custom of the Manor of Wimbledon, In 1663 the fishery was conducted for the three best salmon caught in March, April, and May; but this rent was later changed into a money payment.

As Per Guthrie fishery, here, went on until late 1780s, after which it is said to have been abandoned. Though Lyson we know that even though no “fishery” could be seen in Putney after 1786, the area continued to witness fishing well into the beginning of the 19th century. Today fishing in this part of the world is limited to the recreational amateurs.

The Putney Ferry
The Putney Ferry has a history going back to the 11th century and possibly even earlier. In the records from Edward I (1272-1307) the ferry finds a mention in a couple of instances.

The first is wherein Robert the Ferryman of Putney and other sailors received 3/6d for carrying much of the royal family across the Thames and also carrying the king and his relatives to Westminster.

There were two types of ferry that could be obtained from Putney, the “long ferry” from Putney to London or Westminster and the “short ferry” which ran to Fulham. The first one was particularly used by foot passengers to steer clear of the deplorable roads. Horses could, no doubt, be acquired at the various inns in Putney which were close to the ferry.

Soho Hotels and You

January 6th, 2010

Finding good Soho hotels can be more difficult than you’d assume, especially on your first visit, or if you haven’t been able to find a worthwhile arrangement. So let’s examine a selection of approaches of getting around this problem with very little preparation, selecting a hotel that meets your budget to let you get on with your vacation or business trip.

If you are looking for accommodation with all the bells and whistles, this will cost you far more than just basic accommodation. These are merely the ends of the scale, though, and hence the highest and lowest priced options. Clearly, the first move is a decision about the features you want. This will narrow down your list of potential lodgings to only places with the luxuries you want. Do you actually want an Internet connection and a kitchen suite, for example, or could you equally go for just a warm shower and a clean bed? Cross-reference your shortlist with a city map. If you have some plans about places you’d like to go and other activities you’d like to try during your trip, you can check against these locations and pinpoint the closest accommodation. For example, if what you want is the nightlife and the shopping found in the city center, you should plan on staying in a hotel close to the center, but far enough from the main street to guarantee undisturbed nights. In contrast, if you’re spending your time sightseeing or hill walking, there’s a lot to be said for accommodation in the boondocks.

Don’t forget to find reviews of local hostelries. Plenty of reviews can be found online, and when you’ve read through a decent selection the end result will be a good understanding of the hotels you’re considering. A feeling of the life of a hotel doesn’t come from traditional reviews, however, it’s easy to find guest reviews to supply the details. A question worth asking is how well does the hotel make good on its promised luxuries? We advise you consider statements on hygiene and on the comfort guests experience.

We’ve found that the top Soho hotels provide an enjoyable experience over your stay. You just have to identify the offer that suits your needs while fitting into your budget. As you can see, this is a simple approach and one which has significant benefits for your trip.

Because of the Recession a Lot of Skiing Companies Will Be Slashing Their Amount of Luxury Catered Ski Chalets

July 29th, 2009

Partly due to the recession snowboarding accommodation occupancies fell last winter.

This is even with strong pre season bookings coupled with superb snow conditions.

This drop in vacationers follows on from six winters of successive development in the ski industry, and the numbers dropped from one million two winters ago to less than a million last year.

This is partly due to vacationers giving the season a miss, whilst other holiday makers who would commonly have two or more skiing breaks, merely had one.

Sales for the independent travel sector fell by 15% with some no frills airlines reducing the no. of flights to several cities.

However tour operators saw the numbers going down by 15%.

Even so, the top six operators share of the market remained at just over a healthy 70% and the French Alps retained its position as the favourite destination with about 37% of the English ski market.

This meant that several large operators cut the no. of catered chalets they rent this coming season.

The catered chalet markets will see a reduction in holiday makers due to the fact that a luxury catered chalet costs more in terms of chefs and hosts and rental when it is unoccupied.

It seems unlikely that we shall see the deals on last minute ski holidays that were around this season.

Although prices are probably going to to augment, prices are unlikely to increase much.

The next season will undoubtedly pose grievous problems for an industry which is touched by by the consequences of the depression, weakness of the pound against the euro, high fuel costs and high fixed running costs for snowboarding businesses.

Next season skiers will be more and more price sensitive, which shall lead to a turnabout of the recent years that saw a increase in independent travel.

Food in the Caribbean

July 25th, 2009

If there is one thing that I absolutely love about travel, it is the opportunity that I get to taste exotic food and drinks. You guessed right, I am a foodie whether I am at home or abroad. Even within the US, when I travel, I look for local specialties and check out restaurants that serve food from the region. The Cajun food in New Orleans at Mulate’s or the Spudnut Shop in Richland, WA, or chocolate desserts at Hershey’s “Gimme a break” café, you bet I have been there and tasted them all. The Caribbean is gourmet heaven, any food lover would vouch for that. There are so many islands with their unique cooking styles, influenced by various native tribes and invaders. The colonial era has added its own stamp on the region’s cuisine.

Abundant fresh sea food, exotic spices, unique regional ingredients like plantains, pineapple and jackfruit make for sumptuous meals that are well balanced. The color, textures, flavor and taste differ with each island. If Jamaica has its jerk pork and jerk chicken, Puerto Rico is famous for its asopao and Grenada’s oil-down stew and Calaloo. Travel to Bahamas is not complete until you have tasted conch fritters or conch chowder. Fish and grits is a Bahamian contribution to Caribbean cuisine. Souse, a soup made of pigs feet, onions and celery is a specialty that you can taste in several Caribbean islands. Peas, fresh, dried or split peas, figure prominently in soups here.

Sugarcane plantations that thrived on these islands gave rise to sugar mills and molasses, a by product of sugar production. Rum, made from molasses, is produced on most of these islands and is also exported. Daiquiris, mojitos, Pina Coladas and Planter’s punch became the choice thirst quenchers of the hordes of tourists who traveled to the Caribbean islands with the explosion of the tourist industry in the region.

Ski Short Trips in France Are Still in Demand in the Face of the the Worldwide Crisis

June 23rd, 2009

Even considering the recession, ski short breaks continue to remain a favourite option among skiers.

In part thanks to the popularity of low cost flights, as well as the short distance of lots of skiing resorts to international airports, chalet holidays are nowadays within the price of numerous snowboarders.

As people are reluctant to miss their seasonal snowboarding trips, however, are reluctant to miss one whole week of vacation, numerous preferred to opt for a ski weekend as an alternative.

Heading off on a Thursday after work means one can enjoy 3 days on the pistes with only one day’s holiday.

A ski weekend in France can be a thrilling short break, provided you get the details are right, so that the group will make the most out of your valuable vacation.

With numerous snowboarding providers clipping on holidays for the forthcoming holiday season the price of skiing breaks is likely to soar up.

The rise in prices will also affect the ski weekend sector, which although good last winter, could be hit should this be the case.

Even so with the pound sterling fortifying versus the Euro, and because many snowboarding short break bundles are all inclusive, implies that there could possibly be deals out there.

In fact now might constitute a good period to book one’s ski trip as there are several first class early bird reductions on hand, in addition to cheap flights.

The Perfect Alaska Fishing Lodge near Anchorage

May 30th, 2009

Every summer, I get together with some old college buddies from across the country for our annual fishing trip. Since we rarely can agree on where to go, we decided some years back to take turns planning the trip. Well, it is my turn this year and I am excited to say that I found the perfect spot.

After researching some spots in the Pacific Northwest, I decided to choose something different, somewhere none of us had ever been. So I settled on an Alaska fishing lodge just outside of Anchorage. It’s called the Wilderness Place Lodge, and it is a deluxe fishing lodge that will accommodate a group of up to 16 fishermen in six riverside cabins. Unlike some of the other places we’ve stayed over the years, this lodge is not exactly “roughing it,” since it comes with all the amenities one could possibly want: fine food, a main lodge with a bar featuring Alaskan microbrews, and a very cozy looking fireside lounge.

When I told the gang that I had chosen an Anchorage, Alaska fishing lodge, I got a lot of great responses. Suggestions for side trips to see the glaciers came pouring in, as well as some requests that we take a fly-fishing tour, camp in the wilderness and go kayaking.

Rather than trying to accommodate all of these requests, we decided on some fly-fishing day trips. This way we wouldn’t need to bring a lot of excess camping gear. So I went online last night and purchased a canopy tent and some upgraded fishing equipment that will help us reel in some of the larger king salmon that this area is known for. The lodge had suggested renting a canopy tent once we get there, but I found one that is compact enough when it is folded that it shouldn’t be too difficult to store on the plane.

Now, I am just counting the days. This will definitely be a trip that none of us will soon forget!
