Why You Can’t Get 7,312 Visitors A Day and I Can Using Viral Marketing

June 8th, 2009

Now I have been asked by many people to reveal some of the greatest traffic generating, viral marketing techniques that I know of. Usually I am not to quick to reveal them because I know the majority doesn’t even take action on them.

Why is that? Do they think that these techniques don’t really work? Are they afraid of success? Who knows. All I know is that they work and you should know this too.

Let’s get to them!

First of all you need to know this…you don’t want raffic.

What? No you want targeted traffic. There is a huge difference! You want to get people that are interested in what you have to offer right? If I visit a site on womens shoes I would not buy a thing…but send me to an internet marketing site on viral marketing and I am sure to buy.

Now that you have that strait ;) My first and foremost form of traffic comes from the search engines…yeah I know SEO sucks. There is no getting around it. If you have to spend hours upon hours optimizing your website and getting link partners just to gain a few ranks, it is hard work.

So here is a little shortcut that I take. First of all I write articles just like this one. Not only do I write articles but I also do press releases. This method is a great form of viral marketing. Here is what will happen…you submit your articles to directories and within just a few weeks you will have hundreds of backlinks to your site!

How is that viral? Well, you need to write the kind of content that people will pick up. You see, people are always on the look out for good content right? There is no shortage of it out there but if you write really good content yours is likely to get noticed.

People will pick up your content, post it on their website, send it out in their newsletters, and bam…you have tons of targeted traffic. I just launched a site for the internet marketing and viral marketing crowd and used this very same technique. The result? The site went from a page rank 0 to a page rank 4 in less than 2 months!

What’s really great about this is that I only submitted 1 press release and 2 articles! What if I did more? Yup, you guessed it…my page rank will keep going up along with my traffic and search engine rankings. All because of viral marketing.

So now you have 2 great things. Good seo and great exposure by doing something that takes maybe 2 hours.

My next favorite technique will take a bit more time but none the less, it works like crazy! Pick your subject, write a short 20 page e-book, package it in pdf format and allow people to give it away!

The real key to using this method is to write good content. Make it look nice. Viral marketing is about giving incentive to pass along your message. So allow the people giving your book away to insert their own affiliate links into it! Heck you can even write a press release to let people know you are letting everyone give away a free book!

These are just two of the many viral marketing techniques that I use to gain massive traffic to my websites. Of course there are hundreds more but if I gave them all to you here I would be out of business ;)

The Tale of Mr Newbie and The Truth About Total Failure

June 5th, 2009

The Tale of Mr Newbie and The Truth About Total Failure

If you are new to Internet marketing and your web business makes no money, or worse still a loss, you needn’t worry about looking a fool - chances are nobody will ever know!

Explain?

Well, if you really fail that dismally, chances are no-one visited your site anyway. It’s a fact that most people new to Internet marketing, “newbies” as they are affectionately referred, very often follow a very similar pattern of evolution.

Firstly, Mr Newbie gets enticed to the “easy” money and vast riches that the Internet offers. He can see that people are making big money on the web, so what’s the obvious step - that’s right, get a website!

And what is the theme of Mr Newbies website? How to make money on the Internet, of course! So why does he choose to tell other people how to make money on the Internet BEFORE he has made even one dollar himself?

Well, he finds the biggest array of ready-made products to sell that he could ever wish for - ebooks, courses, affiliate programs etc.,etc. and lots (and lots) of well designed ads that tell him that to resell this product, or represent this program will bring him huge (and instant) rewards.

The smart choice would have been to have taken one of his hobbies, or an area of specialist knowledge that he may possess, and built a niche website around that theme. Promotion would have been easier and potential customers may have even come looking for HIM. He could even have started building a newsletter list before he had a website.

But hey, Mr Newbie has heard you can make cash in Internet marketing in 30 days! Why bother doing any work?

Instead he decides to enter one of the most competitive arenas of the modern business era - not just marketing on the Internet, but marketing products ABOUT Internet Marketing.

He is competing against huge amounts of savvy marketers who use every trick in the book (and some that aren’t) to wring every last drop of spare money out of that other man - “Mr. Average Web Surfer With A Credit Card”.

So what does our friend do?

He buys an ebook that tells him what to do, he can’t go wrong with this one. Heck - the “expert” who wrote it, is even going to let him sell it as his first product. (Mr Newbie new that the platinum package was worth those few extra dollars!)

>From here on, it is often the same story - a lovely website, a clever domain name, and lots of evenings at the computer in the spare bedroom staring at the screen when the kids have gone to bed pondering one major aspect of Internet marketing that is quite vital to the ongoing profitability and feasibility of the whole project while twiddling his thumbs -

WHERE ARE THE VISITORS!

Mr Newbie gives up.

Since I was a kid, I’ve always hated sad endings.

So let’s assume Mr N. decides to give it one last chance - what should he do?

Well money can be earned in the competitive field of Internet marketing, but he obviously needs visitors to his website - more than just throwing a bit of money at banner ads, or pay-per-click search engines.

Both can be fine, but what he really needs is a traffic plan.

Firstly, he realizes that there are two main types of traffic - paid for and free.

He makes a list of all of the free traffic generating systems he knows, and researches a few more.

He is amazed at how many good traffic generating programs there are, and how many are so easily implemented. One involves setting his start page differently. With one he has to add an exit pop-up, and with another he has to surf looking at webpages to earn hits to his own.

Mr Newbie gets an immediate increase in visitors to his website. What’s more, because of the viral effect of some of these plans, his traffic grows on a daily basis. He also gets a lot more subscribers to his newsletter.

Secondly, he gets a vital component; he gets an ad tracking service for tracking his ads, so that he knows which are pulling in visitors and which ones aren’t. He is now ready to tackle paid advertising.

Now that he can measure the success of each individual ad, he is astonished at how he can make money. Even though he gets a terrible response rate to one ad, it turns out that he still makes a profit from it. He wouldn’t have known this before getting his ad tracker. He doubles the size of this campaign and makes more money!

Mr Newbie gets amazing amounts of visitors from his traffic plan, from his list of free traffic generators, and from his list of places that are profitable for his paid ads - his business is a success!!

Last I’d heard of Mr.N he was sipping cocktails and sunning himself on a white sand beach someplace. Oh, and he’d changed his name to Mr.G - or Mr Guru, to give him his full title.

Avoiding Parking Fines when Using Removals Companies

April 15th, 2009

Did you know that any parking fines incurred by the vehicles of a removals or man with a van company that you are hiring to complete a move are your responsibility to pay? Unfortunately too many people are unaware of this important consideration for any home move, and do not make the necessary precautions to prevent having to confront the dread fixed penalty notice.A little known but useful fact is that many London councils have a provision for exemption from parking restrictions for furniture removals, which often goes unused in everyday parking enforcement. You can call up your local council and get a direct answer as to whether this exemption will apply outside your house. The best precaution to take is to apply for a parking bay suspension from the council well in advance of the day of the move. You may have to fork out a little bit of dough for this, but you can rest assured that you will be safe from the clutches of the dreaded parking warden. The employees of Man and Vans Ltd. in London, along with their sister company the Water Delivery Company, have had to become experts in the field of parking fine justice, check out their blog for more information and tips on parking.

Car Parking at East Midlands

January 17th, 2009

Nottingham’s East Midlands Airport is sited in a convenient position near to Castle Donington in Leicestershire. Leicester and Nottingham continually battle about which has the rights to call it their aiport! The cities of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby are completely inside a 30 mile radius of the landing field; from the M1 motorway take junction 23 or 24, and if you are travelling on the M42, continue on this road until it eventually turns into the A42 and then follow the airport signs. Nottingham East Midlands Airport has turned into a hub for the “no frills” airlines EasyJet, Ryanair and BMIBaby, and works on a range of national and Europe-wide short haul destinations. You can fly both scheduled and charter flights from East Midlands Airport.

To park your car at the airport can sometime be difficult. For advice on how to organise your <a href=”East Midlands Airport Car Parking

You can get to and from Nottingham East Midlands Airport by a mixture of methods including Private Transfers where you could be met in the arrivals hall by a driver who will then take you on to your selected destination. The airport taxi service is run by a company called Checker Cars who have a desk in the arrivals hall. You can either pre-book a taxicab or jump into a cab when you arrive, however the queues can be sort of prolonged during peak times of the day.

There are no trains from the airport but you can take a bus to the main railway stations of Derby, Nottingham, Loughborough and Long Eaton. The buses leave from outside the arrivals area and include National Express Coaches which go to Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.

If you wish to hire a motorcar on your arrival then you have the choice of 4 companies who are based within the terminal building. It is advisable to pre-book your rental car as this ensures that you will get the make and model you require, and also cuts down on time filling in paperwork when you arrive.

The arrivals hall at the airport is fairly small. As you pass through into arrivals, you will see the car rental companies and the taxi desk as well as a coffee bar and newsagents. Airport shuttle buses (to the car parks) are situated to the right outside arrivals where the Easyjet building is. We also provide information on live flight arrivals at Nottingham East Midlands Airport

The airport’s departures hall is on the ground floor and is relatively bijou with only one row of check-in desks. To the left is the Easyjet check-in hall which is adjacent to the main check-in area.

If you want to leave your car at parking at east midlands airport.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Requesting Links

December 31st, 2008

Do’s

Concentrate your efforts on getting relevant high quality links. The more popular the site, the better rated it is (for example the higher the Google PR), the more valuable the link from it is. A good rule of thumb is that each increase in PR is an increase in magnitude of value.

People are more likely to link with you if you already have a link to them. So if you’re going to ask for a reciprocal link, first create your links before you send out any of your link request emails.

Keep the links focused to your topic, or to items your visitors will be interested in. Don’t just randomly link to other websites, you’re your visitors and the search engines will both devalue you if you do.

The more PR you have, the easier it is to get links. I know this is a catch-22, but it’s the truth. So don’t expect much at first. Aim more for sites that have lower PR’s and work your way up. Don’t expect a website with a PR of 7-8 to link with a site of a PR2-3. Odds are it just won’t happen.

Probably the #1 do, have good, unique, and relevant content that’s interesting! If you don’t chances are you won’t get many links. Getting links to interesting sites is a whole lot easier than to boring “spammy” sites.

When you request a link be personable, be specific about what attracted you to that site, explain why you’d be a good linking partner, etc. In the past, I’ve found that I’ve gotten great results when I commented on a particular text from another website that got my attention. I’d spend a few sentences explaining why I found it interesting, and relate it to something on my website. It’s very effective, people like when you notice them, and you’re genuine. Do note that if you’re faking it or if you’re sending a template letter, it will produce the opposite effect.

Keep your link requests brief. People are busy and don’t want to read long emails. If you send me more than one or two paragraphs, you’ve lost my attention. So if you’re going to comment as I just suggested on the previous Do, keep it short and sweet.

Peak the persons interest. If you send someone an email with just “reciprocal link request”, or something common like that, it will probably just be put on top of a pile of other link requests to get to when time permits. However if you draw the person’s attention by talking about something specific, like a topic they recently wrote about, or some exciting news related to their topic, chances are much higher that you’ll connect with them and get linked.

Don’t be shy about putting links to other sites in your articles. I know I regularly look through my web logs to see where the traffic is coming from. Who knows who might find you? I can tell you from experience it’s worked for me.

Have your links page close to your home page. Don’t embed it somewhere where no one can find it. I’ve seen this done often with the precept that it’ll increase your PR by not giving it away (for lack of better term). Maybe it’s true, maybe not. In either case, I personally won’t reciprocate with you if all you’re offering is the 300th link on page 10 of your links page that is 10 clicks deep.

Don’ts

Don’t participate in link farms and exchange programs. Most are completely irrelevant to your website and the search engines already know about them. If you’re unlucky enough, you might even get your website banned from some search engines as a result.

Don’t use redirects or link tricks when you offer link exchanges. Most people see through these and they quickly backfire.

Don’t make your link pages look like just a large lists of web pages. No one values these links. They generate no traffic or PR for the websites listed. Rather spend the time to create a valuable links page with name, description, and some comments. It shows that you took the time to evaluate them and you really are interested.

Very important, don’t send duplicate link request emails. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen multiple requests within minutes from the same website. I won’t go into the debate of whether or not automating link requests is good, but if you do automate it, don’t make it so blatantly obvious.

Don’t CC lots of people in your link request emails. This is even worse than sending multiple copies of the same request to the same website.

I understand that this is a catch-22 again, but I get many requests from people who have been blogging for 1-2 weeks, maybe 3-4. In any case, if you’re the new kid on the block, don’t expect links from larger sites right away. How do I know you’ll be around in another month or so? Give yourself some time to build your reputation up, and then ask for higher quality links. Like I mentioned before, start smaller and build up.

Don’t send emails with “warnings” that I’m in danger of losing my link from you. Firstly, they won’t work, secondly they tell me you’ve automated the process and I’m one of lots, and lastly, odds are that your links are worthless because of their sheer quantity. Never mind that more often than not they have no relevance to my website.

When asking for links keep your link description brief and to the point. Don’t try to seed your link requests with as many keywords as you can possibly squeeze into it. I can’t tell you many times I’ve seen linking titles that make no sense, that seem to be a dozen or more keywords randomly slapped together.

Don’t capitalize your link title and/or description. The harder you make it for someone to incorporate your links, the less likely they’re going to link to you.

Don’t try to ask for reciprocal links by falsely saying how much traffic your site gets. It’s usually pretty obvious, and if not it will be obvious within no time at all. No one likes to link to dishonest people.

All in all these are my tips. Like I said before, I’ve been on both sides of the fence and these are the simple Do’s and Don’ts that really helped me.

Linking - This is It!

October 7th, 2008

Well I find it time to speak again about linking as I have a couple of times in the past two years. I think I have gone the cycle and I think I have arrived.

What do we want linking to do for us and what can linking actually do for us?

Well we want it to get us traffic. Most of us think it can get us traffic two ways. One way we hope to get traffic is by making the search engines think we are good because of all the links to us. We are hoping that will rank us higher in those search engines.

All the SEO companies want to help us be on the FIRST PAGE of Google. Well with the billions of websites now and all the keywords maxed out - can we all be on the first or second page? Of course not!

So, how much does it really matter where you rank in Google?
Let me give you an example provided by David Notestine from Zeus link management programming. He will provide server logs to back up stats that show:

- they get 6000000 hits per month for Zeus

- about 20 of those hits are from search engines

- about 3 percent result from paid adwords (not profitable he says)

- the remainder are from hits from links on other websites

What should we really expect from our linking strategy. Let’s get hits from links on other sites. Forget that other stuff about pleasing the Google Gods!

So why don’t we all help each other with good linking practices? If you are going to link to me so that others can find my site, why in the hell don’t you make it easy for those visitors to go from your home page to your link index? WHERE IS THE DAM Text to click on for links? If I can’t find it to verify my link, then I know damn well that your site visitors won’t find it or even look for it if it’s that hard to find. As you can see, this really irks me.

Secondly, for your link site to be useful to me, visitors need to find me or my product in that huge directory that we all are trying to develop. The best way to make it easy for searchers to find a link to a website or product is with a “search utility” installed and kept current on the page of that big link directory. Visitors can then search for a product, name or contact and get easy and immediate results.

The difference we see here is that a few little things like this will make linking work the way it should for ALL of us and not for just ten or twenty websites!

Seven Red Hot Tips for Linking

August 30th, 2008

1. Vary the keywords in your link ‘anchor’ text

Unless you provide only one product or service the chances are you will want to rank for many key phrases. One way to help achieve this objective is to change the link text you want all new sites to use periodically. Vary the anchor text slightly each time and by doing so you can cover more of your targeted key phrases. This approach can help your site rank for many keywords rather than just one or two.

If you do only provide one product or service on your web site it is still important to vary anchor text. If you sell ‘blue widgets’ then you could also use link text like ‘cheap blue widgets’ or ‘blue widget store’. This means your links take on a more natural feel and are much less likely to be penalised or filtered out by search engines for being ‘fake links’.

2. Set up your link information differently - create a link in context

Typically people set up their link information in a very similar way, however you could offer your link information with the hyperlink inside the description instead of at the beginning.

Imagine this is a description about your web site on a partner’s link page. Instead of a typical hyperlink followed by a description you could write a sentence describing your web site and then place “your descriptive hyperlink” inside it.

One reason for doing this is that it reads more naturally and search engines may value the link higher as it reads more like a narrative. Many webmasters will be happy to accept this style even if some do not. To cover yourself offer the link in context as a second option along with your regular link information, that way if some sites can’t support the layout you still get your link.

3. Vary where your links point

Try to vary where link partners point to on your site. It’s fine to have the majority of links pointing into your home page, however it can be beneficial to have some links pointing to other key pages on your web site as well. Taking this approach balances out your linking and can help raise the profile of more pages on your web site.

4. How to find potential link partners from your competitors

If a web site links to your competitors it may also link to yours, and in order to find these potential link partners you can use search engines. Not so long ago Google was useful for getting a lot of back link information about a site. Recently Google’s back link data is a lot less forthcoming and it now tends to show only a tiny percentage of the sites that are linking combined with a lot of internal link data. Whether the few web sites Google shows us are the ones it finds important or whether they are in fact red herrings we cannot say for certain. I would assume the latter.

Currently Yahoo is a better portal to check for backlinks. To generate a list of linking web sites on Yahoo simply go to http://www.yahoo.com and type the following into the Yahoo search bar.

linkdomain:www.mycompetitorwebsite.com

This will deliver up to date link information as read by Yahoo. The only downside with the information is that one site may appear many times if it is giving multiple links.

5. Alternate your description text

This is often overlooked, but there is no real advantage to be had if the description text supporting your inbound links is always identical. To avoid the possibility of a description ever being seen as ‘duplicate content’ alternate it when you can. If you combine it with varied anchor text [as in tip 1] you’re heading in the right direction.

6. Link to good related content from your web site

It seems like an obvious thing to say, but with so many people caught up in link exchanging you sometimes wonder if we’re losing site of the basics. If you have something useful to say on your site and can back it up with a useful link to another web site then do so. Not every link has to be reciprocated. This resourceful linking will allow your visitors to read around the subject. Linking to informative related content is useful for visitors and search engines quite like it too.

7. Seek out directory links

Links from good web directories can be some of the best links you can get for your web site. Aaron Wall has a ‘directory of directories’ at http://www.directoryarchives.com where you will find a great selection of search engine friendly directories. Some of the directories are free to get listed in whilst others may charge a fee.

Traffic Tips To Get People To Your Website

August 29th, 2008

Let’s talk traffic and how to get it. Your website has at most, 10 seconds to grab the attention of your visitor, so you need to have something “interest grabbing” above the fold. That’s a newspaper term for what people see when looking at the top part of a paper. With more than 50 million websites out there, your viewers will demand topic specific information that will make them bookmark you, recommend you to their friends, and make them return over and over.

An easy subscribe method on your site is a must. If must have an easy way for people to subscribe or you are literally throwing away customers; something you can’t afford to do in these competitive times.

Building a list is one of the single most important things you can do to survive and stay alive in business. One of the easiest ways to build a list is to offer something free to all subscribers. Offer value and people will stay with you for a very long time. If you don’t have a large list of your own, then barter or buy advertising with someone who does have a large list with the same target market audience as you.

Take your list, no matter how big or how small and ask your subscribers to refer 2 people to your site. Offer them something of value for helping you. Explain to them that you are trying to build your list so you can improve your site so that it will be more beneficial to them. We are all just ordinary people out there and many of us are happy to help others. Make sure there is a link on your site for people to forward your site to others with one click. Think, how many times has a friend sent you a site to look at. We all do it.

Don’t forget to always include your website at the bottom of every email you send. Make sure you use it in a sig file at any webboard you join. Same for newsgroups. Consider sending funny pictures out to friends and relatives with your sig file in the email. As they forward your email to others and they refer to others it will explode. Make sure you have a very effective sig file. This allows you to keep building and building.

One of the most important things you can do with your website is to make sure any link that goes away from your site is set to open in a new window. This way your visitors do not leave your site and don’t have to try and find a way back once they have finished at the other site. Your site must be as user friendly as possible.

Getting your website link on other websites. Links to your site will affect your search engine rankings. The higher your ranking the more visitors. It’s that simple. But not just any link will do. You need quality links that also relate to your business. Avoid link farms. Search engines will view your site negatively if you are in link farms or god forbid, webrings. Don’t link with just anyone. Go for quality.

A free site that will help you to get and exchange quality links is Ken Evoy’s SiteSell. Free is good and they make it very easy for you. It one reason I return to their site over and over. Have a look http://value-exchange.sitesell.com Consider exchanging banners with these sites. It a benefit for both of you.

Get listed in ezine directories and search engines. Submit by hand and not by some mass program. Many of them don’t work properly and search engines are starting to ignore them. Start with http://www.dmoz.org as they feed a lot of other search engines. Then hit the top five.

Get Google traffic. It’s not that hard. There’s no special trick. Simply go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and read their recommendations and then make sure you implement them into your site so that your site is properly optimized. Set aside some time every day…15 minutes to an hour and work on optimizing your site correctly.

Want to get into Yahoo the free way. It’s easy…visit here http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request It may take a month or more, but it will save you a lot of money. If you are in a hurry and time is money then used the paid listing. It by no means guarantee that you will get it and they will not refund your money if they reject you, but if you have done things right you should be ok.

If you can write articles do so. If you don’t then put appropriate articles on your site for others to read. Either will bring you traffic. Archived articles that you have written can bring you traffic for years to come. This is an effective long term strategy and will help to establish you and your credentials as well.

A popular ezine directory like http://www.ezinehub.com will give you some insight on what ezines will accept your articles and submitting to ezine article sites will give you even wider distribution. Make sure all your articles include a small footer at the end, about the author. This should be kept to 4-5 lines and has to be as effective as possible in order to bring you new visitors.
